PTA Updated Policy, No TAX on Imported Mobiles phones from Overseas Pakistani

All cellphones brought into Pakistan must have PTA approval within 60 days in order to continue to function with regional cellular networks. This implies that if you bring cellphones into Pakistan, you must pay import duties. However, this may no longer be the case, at least for some phones.

PTA Removed TAX on Mobile Phones For Overseas

The great news comes directly from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), which has just released a briefing and said that cellphones brought in from abroad would no longer be blocked. There is a catch to the telecom authority’s proposal to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to exclude smartphones from import tax.

Only one smartphone imported from abroad for personal use will be exempted from the change. For example, the standard import duties must still be paid for PTA approval when smartphones are imported in large quantities or for retail sales. Pakistanis living abroad should no longer have to pay extra for phones they already own thanks to the move.

Foreigners who just wish to bring their cellphones to Pakistan for personal usage would also profit from it. Though PTA has just requested the modification for the time being, remember that FBR retains the final say. Thus, the development has not yet received official status.
