Instagram said on its Twitter account that an outage that began on Monday October 31st around 6:52 pm ET had been fixed around 3 am on November 1st. Instagram locked users out during the downtime and informed many of them that their accounts will be terminated on October 31, 2022. The majority of reports of the problem appeared to come from iPhone users, with some claiming that their app recently crashed and became useless prior to an update earlier this morning.

The platform acknowledged the problem on Twitter for the first time at 10:14 AM ET but didn’t announce a fix until many hours later, at 6 PM ET. Instagram’s Head, Adam Mosseri, also expressed regret for the downtime.

Users reported 7,600 reports on Downdetector when Instagram confirmed the issue, but have stabilised during the day.
Around 10:15AM ET, a quick glance at Cristiano Ronaldo’s Instagram account revealed that, although it still had 493 million followers the day before, it looked to have lost 3 million of followers. However, the number has now risen to 493 million again.
Update from INSTAGRAM : On October 31st, 6:52PM ET they announced that “outage has been fixed !”
