You may soon only be able to access all of Twitter if you pay for it, so if you thought the new $8 Twitter Blue subscription was the end of it, think again. Elon Musk has reportedly proposed making the site only available to premium users, according to tech news blog Platformer, which has been providing inside information on Twitter.
No Official Statement from Elon Musk
There haven’t been any official statements as of yet from Elon Musk, so it’s unknown at this point how serious Musk is about this. To date, a request for comment from Twitter has received no response.
Twitter is in a crazy state as a result of the news. On Friday of last week, shortly after Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of the company, which was finalised in late October, the social network giant lost close to half of its workers. In order to minimise costs, the new owner of Twitter has sacked both managers and executives, alleging that the business was losing $4 million every day.
He added that three months of severance compensation, which is 50% more than what is necessary by law, had been offered to the sacked workers.
However, in a humiliating turn of events, Twitter has lately contacted some of the dismissed workers about returning. This is due to the fact that some of the workers had been “accidentally” fired, while others had been let go before management understood Musk’s ambitious plans for the platform required their expertise and experience.
Moving future, the price of Twitter Blue, a premium tier with more capabilities, will also increase. It will eventually increase from $3.99 to $7.99, and those who want the coveted blue tick verification will need to purchase it. Additional paid features will be available, including as ad-free articles, bookmark folders, the ability to undo tweets, unique app icons, and others.
